Arts researchers included in NSERC funding announcement

Five projects from the departments of Psychology and Anthropology and Archaeology share over $1M in federal grants

Congratulations to the five researchers from the Faculty of Arts who received five years of NSERC funding through the on July 7, 2026. 

These multi-year grants support long-term goals, strengthen the research training environment and foster research excellence, recognizing the creativity and innovation that are at the heart of all research advances. 

The Faculty of Arts winners of this year’s Discovery Grants 

  • Dr. Michael Antle, PhD, Psychology 
    Project title: Role of the orexin system in non-photic resetting of the circadian clock 

  • Dr. Susanne Cote, PhD, Anthropology and Archaeology 
    Project title: Fossil apes and their environment in the Middle Miocene of West Turkana, Kenya 

  • Dr. Edwin Dickinson, PhD, Anthropology and Archaeology 
    Project title: Integrative approaches in ecomorphology: modeling adaptations towards arboreality across anatomical systems 

  • Dr. Giuseppe Iaria, PhD, Psychology 
    Project title: Mental Maps, Routes, and Midlife Plasticity 

  • Dr. Derya Sargin, PhD, Psychology 
    Project title: A novel subcircuit in serotonergic modulation of social behaviour
